LAKE CHALA DAY TRIP
Trip Overview
Lake Chala is a crater lake in a caldera located near Mount Kilimanjaro. The lake gets its water through underground springs from Mt. Kilimanjaro. A day walking tour to lake Chala is always recommended.
It is an unforgettable experience to walk along with the huge variety of stunning trees, grasses, and plants; Most of these plants are native to the area. Also, Lake Chala is home to different life forms, awesome butterflies, mammals, and birds including spectacular birds of prey.
A few birds to name are the African Fish Eagle, with its hunting techniques, Verreaux’s Eagle, Augur Buzzards, and many other species. Mammals such as monkeys, baboons, dik-dik, and kudu can easily be seen around the area.
Chala is a great spot for swimming, canoeing, picnicking, canoeing, birdwatching, and nature walks.
Trip Itinerary
0800hrs: you will be picked up by your guide from your accommodation either Moshi or Arusha. Drive to Lake Chala Safari Camp with your packed lunch box and drinking water.
Upon arrival, you will see the beautiful private game reserve overlooking the crater lake. Your guide will show you around and will take you down to the lake. Spend the day swimming, exploring, and kayaking (optional).
Around 1630Hrs: Your guide will take you back and leave you at your accommodation.
NB: It is possible to stay overnight at the lodge or campsite found in the area. If you are camping, you can either bring your own equipment or hire upon arrival.
