8 Days Kilimanjaro Climb Lemosho Route

A lesser-travelled route with breathtaking views. Particularly enjoyed by nature lovers

Do you want to go on a route to the summit of Kilimanjaro, which is only used by a few mountain hikers and still has a very original charm? Then the Lemosho route is probably the right choice for you. The first few days travel on secluded paths through lush rainforest, heath and moorland. From the Barranco Camp the tour is then identical to the Machame route. The tour is roughly level of challenge as the Machame route and requires a good physical condition and surefootedness. Due to its height profile, it also offers good conditions for acclimatization. The percentage of summit successes is the same as on the Machame route and higher than on the Marangu route.

We recommend the Lemosho route as a 8 day tour. This tour fully applies the rule “Pole Pole” (slowly, slowly) and an additional acclimatization day is an advantage for the successful ascent. We organize the tour also as a 7 day tour, the way leads you then to Shira Camp 2 on the second day.

  • A very scenic and natural route
  • Ascent via the Lemosho route and descent via the Mweka route
  • Climbing passage in the Barranco Wall
  • Route profile offers very good conditions for acclimatization
  • Total distance about 74 km

Great Experience We did the one day hike up the Kilimanjaro tour and was great! The tour guide picked us up on time and was very informative through the whole tour. Showed us different types of plants and interesting information. The lunch they provided was also hand made and pretty delicious! They picked us all the way up from Arusha to Moshi and was easy to communicate with other WhatsApp. I would definitely recommend booking with Kisambi Tours again!

A nice experience of the hot springs Everything was well arranged by our friendly guide and drive, Furthermore we received additional information about the area from the guide on the way to and from the hot springs, which was nice.
In 1 woord: fantastisch! Bedankt!

Good experience I went to Mikumi national park with two friends. Everything was planned perfectly, the guide was very prepared. It was a very short trip (2 days only) but we saw all the animals in the park.

It was one of the amazing experiences we had during our stay in Tanzania! Dennis picked up us from the hotel and we drove to Materuni Villages! During the trip we made a stop in a local scholl because we asked for that so we can see how the schools there work and we gave some sweets to the children. We we arrived we saw the view which was amazing and then we walked to a place where we saw how coffee is produced. This experience was amazing and it will be unforgettable for us. We danced and we sang with the people and the children there and we were part from this family! We felt like home because they are so nice people and their hospitality was amazing. After that we ate all together local traditional dishes that they cooked for us and they gave us souvenirs from banana leaves and we bought also some nice handmade souvenirs from the store there. After the lunch we left and we walked 40 minutes through an amazing park - forest! This walk was amazing! Dennis was explaining us everything about their history, the plants, the environment there and their habits! During this walk we met local people and they were also so nice with us! After 40 minutes of walking we saw a huge waterfall and we couldn't believe how beautiful was that! Dennis made many nice photos of us and then we walked back to the car! We recommend 100% this tour with Dennis! And if we have the chance to go back to this place it will be our pleasure to meet him again and enjoy more time with hime! Thank Dennis! We already miss you!

Kilimanjaro - Machame 7 Day Elisante (owner) and the whole team at Kisambi tours were fantastic from start to finish. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough for a Kilimanjaro climb. From quote stage Elisante was clear, helpful and professional (and the price was great). He allowed us to choose any route and date which meant my friend and I could choose a full moon summit as we had hoped. In the lead up to the trip he was also helpful and gave me great confidence.Once in Tanzania he arranges airport pickups at the standard rate and can organise accommodation and other activities. The day before the climb we met for gear check and briefing, and again I was very impressed at how professional and helpful they were. Driving us to gear rental shops and a cafe, and also arranging a day trip to Materuni village and water falls (amazing) for us. You are very well taken care of with Kisambi! On the mountain the team could not have been better. The trip was the height of luxury, better than some hotels I’ve stayed in! Comfortable beds, food so good that we thought the chef must have been a magician, and two highly experienced guides at our side through it all. We felt that the whole team really wanted us to succeed and that they were all doing everything they could for us to. Incredible people, each and every one. When the climb was difficult on the summit night, our guides high experience became very clear. They make it look so easy and with their help, we made it. I can’t imagine having climbed it with anyone else, they were incredible. If you’re considering a Kilimanjaro climb (or any tourist activity in Moshi) then Elisante is the man to speak to. I have full confidence in recommending him and will be giving him a call when I eventually return. Thank you Elisante, and thank you to our whole team!

Tour Plan

Today we will be journeying for about 2.5 miles and it should take around 34 hours. After breakfast, drive to Londorosi Park Gate (2250m / 7380ft, 2.5 hours). From here we will go along a forest track requiring a 4WD vehicle. This road will lead us to Lemosho Glades. Continue walking along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (big tree) Campsite
Today we will be ascending to 11,500 ft for 5.5 miles. This should take us 56 hours. After breakfast, we will continue as the trail gradually steepens and enters the giant heather moorland zone. We will cross several streams and then finally reach Shira 1 Camp located by a stream on the Shira Plateau
We will hike today for 2 hours and reach 12,600 ft. After breakfast, a gentle walk across the plateau leads to Shira 2 Camp on moorland meadows by a stream. A variety of walks are available on the plateau making this an excellent day for acclimatization.
Today we will tae 56 hours to Barranco Hut at 12,700ft. From the Shira Plateau, we will continue to the East, passing the junction towards Kibo Peak. As we continue, our direction changes to the Southeast towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we will come to the second junction, which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 4876-meters/15,997 ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 3860- meters/12,664 ft. Here we will rest, enjoy dinner, and stay for overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation, as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for the summit day
Today we will take 34 hours to Karanga Hut at 13,800ft. After breakfast, we will leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley (4200m/13,780 ft) Campsite. Relax and have some drinks while waiting for dinner
Today we will hike 34 hours to Barafu Hut at 15,100 ft. After breakfast, we will start ascending to Barafu Hut. Here you will have completed the Southern Circuit, which offers the views of the summit from many different angles. Here we will rest and get the last briefing from your professional guide before the summit night. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be seen from this position.
Early in the morning, we will continue our way to the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5985 meters (19,636 ft). This part of the climb takes about 6 hours. It can be very cold at night at these elevations but it will be quite warm by the end of the hiking day. You will want clothing for both extremes with you. At Uhuru Peak, we have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut campsite at 3100 meters (10,171 ft). This part of the descent takes about 5 hours. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Later in the evening, we will enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a wellearned sleep. Beer and soda may be available for purchase at the Mweka Hut – the only place on this route
Today we will descend 45 hours to Moshi at 5,500 ft. After breakfast, we will continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and tshirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). A vehicle will meet you at Mweka gate to drive you back to your hotel. Don’t forget to tip your guides and porters
